About Us

Many of you know that early last year, our Company (I say “our” because, it really isn’t “my” company; it belongs to all the folks who had the faith and the ability to jump on the locomotive that became Original American Ice Cream Co LLC as it took it’s baby steps toward initiating what was my dream to make a lot of people smile.
I felt in my heart that many, many people cannot resist ice cream, any flavor or their favorite flavor. I also knew that Clearwater FL, where I retired, did not have any really good ice cream parlors. I knew this because, when I asked, almost everyone hesitated and then pointed me toward the Beach. Some would suggest Safety Harbor or Dunedin, two nearby towns on the Bay and the Gulf, respectively. I visited both, leaving Clearwater, and purchased ice cream….not bad… but not great. I remembered that when I lived in the the Bronx, we would go to City Island to get great ice cream, or in Harlem, we’d go to Snookie’s Sugar Bowl on Seventh Avenue. It was way better that “store-bought”.
I thought I could give folks in Clearwater that kind of experience, so I asked friends to join me in that goal. Well we have grown from a dream to a reality. It did take few months but when the bell rang for Round One, we responded. We had a resounding reception at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday in October and followed that with an appearance at the Annual Clearwater Street Fair in November. At the Jazz Holiday one lady remarked, “I saw people with ice cream, and they were licking their heads off, smiling! I asked, “Where’d you get that?”, and they just pointed! I walked clear across the park to get here! As soon the cone got into her hands, she smile, stood there and ate her Rocky Road right there! Then she said, “Give me another!” and the concert was in process! Everybody, time after time, remarked, “It’s hard to find great ice cream in Clearwater!” We followed that up with the same response at the street fair. We were ready for our retail shop; and we are still looking for the ideal location. We hope to open this spring.
